The unemployment rate just dipped to 7.8%, happy news for sad Obama fans. (Not to mention those 114,000 people who got new jobs in September.)
More fun facts:
The Labor Dept. revised upwards the number of jobs created in July and August. August is now estimated at 142k, from the original 96k, while July went from 141k to 181k — both estimates were very disappointing at the time
The workforce expanded by 0.4%, meaning the lowered unemployment rate is NOT because of discouraged workers giving up looking for a job.
The unemployment rate has dropped 1.2% in the past year.
Lots of pundits (including Steve Lombardo, above — an ex-Republican strategist who ran focus group research for the Bush ‘92 campaign) think this cancels Romney’s momentum from the debate.
Meanwhile, right-wing dead-enders think the Obama campaign fixed the numbers, like crackpot ex-General Electric chairman Jack Welch who tweeted: “Unbelievable jobs numbers..these Chicago guys will do anything..can’t debate so change numbers.”
Michael Idov tweets: “Unemployment down to 7.8%. EVERY TIME we moan about Obama not being assertive in debate/speech, he comes back w/bin Laden’s head on a stick.”
So which will it be, America?- peterfeld / @peterfeld
