most americans that work do pay federal payroll taxes (social security and medicare which is in turn 1/3 of our overall spending). it’s funny how no one mentions that. i make minimum wage and i still have to pay federal taxes, just not the income tax

82 percent of Americans pay either income or payroll taxes. The rest are either elderly or make less than $20,000 per year. Something tells me this information was not conveyed to those being polled.
