Conspicuously absent from the Democratic platform: drones and extrajudicial assassinations of Americans
by Jayel Aheram
Democrats just published their platform and Kade Crockford points out the very questionable and anti-progressive planks included in the platform (my comments in parenthesis):
- Also declares deadly Afghan surge a “success” (and makes no mention of record number of troop deaths).
- Devotes paragraphs to the Second Amendment, but makes no mention of either First or Fourth Amendment.
- Celebrates the summary execution of Osama Bin Laden (who was already injured and bleeding when killed—a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions).
- Does not mention drones and the expansion of the program under the Obama administration.
A few of my observations:
- Makes no mention of the NDAA or indefinite detentions.
- Makes no mention of illegal spying or the promise to prosecute privacy violations by government.
- Makes no mention of the Patriot Act.
There are some good things in it, of course. For example, Internet Freedom is now a bipartisan consensus, though I strongly suspect the Democratic version would be RIAA version of the “Internet Freedom.”
However, platform is significant not because of what it covers, but what it chooses to leave out.
What do you think of the Democratic platform?

I can’t even say that I support Obama. Rather, I’m terrified of Romney. This is all so sad.

I think it is like all political party platforms: more self-serving than honest. This is about elections
